I care for a gentlemen who has become incontinent. Yes, he wears depends.
The problem is his body shape. His belly is so huge and solid that he can't keep anything up. Including his pants. Therefore the depends hangs down from his crotch. The depends can't catch all the urine. I have tried everything I can think off to keep the depends in place. Nothing works! Therefore we have the washing machine going all the time.
It's not a perfect solution, as I sometimes leak over the side of the Guards, but it is far better than external catheters and a leg bag. I quickly develop a rash on my scrotum and lots of burning pain when I try to use them. The adhesive seems to keep the skin moist too long and I have diaper rash.
Suspenders - with all his pants. You can even hook the suspenders to his Depends while he is wearing clothing.
Condom catheter - it rolls over the penis and has an opening at the end to attach to either a leg bag or a large bag used when in bed. Make sure to get the leg strap to help support the weight of the bag.
Pouches - these work similar to the condom catheter with supposedly less pressure on the penis.
I am having good success with the high absorbency Depends for men with a liner of the high absorbency urine pads (ones for men or women) for overnight use. I also put down "puppy pads" on seats and bed so I end up doing less housework.
I watched a CNA do that and it worked.
If this is only bladder incontinence, why not look into an 'external catheter' (non invasive) that drains into a bag - less washing, more emptying.
Thank goodness he can still go to regular restroom for the other so don’t know how well they would contain for that and I’m not ready to find out. The matching booster insert did not work because for whatever crazy reason, he would pull it out the way and then use the boy’s room. Did not take me but finding one pulled out and thrown to the side. Thankfully it was unused but I discontinue ordering because I would not want him to pull a used one out and toss to the side.
The problem I’m having is he still wants to be in his 20’s and stand while trying to pull it out from the side or top which leads to wet floors and clothes. So if I’m not on him to require sitting, that’s when our accidents happens. When I see wet pants in the morning and the bed/bedside potty is dry, I know he has pulled the hose pipe out (either from top or side) and fallen back to sleep. Still a steam point for me.
But when he does not try to pull it out, that pull-up catches all the urine.
I love that old-fashioned suspender/bed sheet suspender idea. However, you may have to scour the internet for some that won't have metal parts. Otherwise see if smaller size underwear may work (a size down) or try different brands.
Try a pair of his tighter fitting normal underwear over the product you are using now.
The other thing you might want to look into is the size. Look closely at the waist size they give on the box not just the "letter size" (S,M,L,XL)
Just clip them on and adjust for a comfortable fit.
If there is any risk of injury (from metal parts, or too stretchy), you might fashion something similar to tie on and place over the shoulders - a bit a trial and error will be required.
