My dad aspirated on Wednesday morning, started running fever. Many meds were given. Antibiotics morphine Tylenol. A patch to dry up mucus and oxygen is ongoing.
He was suctioned and given meds to rest. Offered thickened soup. No response to any food or drink. On Thursday offered thickened tea but could not keep in his mouth. He opened for a bite but seems not to swallow. He spit on the floor. He jerks like he is falling. If no food or liquids being swallowed, what can I expect? He is under hospice care. Age 95.

My mom was also on hospice. She died this April. She wasn’t able to swallow at the end. The dying do not have any appetite. Your dad isn’t going to eat or drink anything.

I am so sorry. I wish you peace during this difficult time in your life. It’s very hard.

THretired, What do the medical professionals treating advise in terms of the next steps, and and an estimate of how long will he live?    I think what you can do though is to remember the bonds you've created in your life, touch him or hold his hands, and let him know how much he means to you.   Prepare him for more positive thinking as he leaves this world, and let him go knowing that he's positively influenced and guided your life.

I hope his passing is peaceful.

My dad is in memory care with hospice. It’s a wait and see situation. But not eating or drinking is a sign for me to be prepared. Thank you

It sounds like he is near death; my father couldn't swallow at the end and was mostly unresponsive. I'm so very sorry.
