My husband had to deliver the news over the phone because FIL misunderstood something the nurse said or did or whatever, and thought They were going home in two days. Now he's threatening to call the police. They are only there until we can get them on Medicaid. I can't find anywhere that will take them. First very few assisted living places accept Medi-Cal and the ones that do have a 6-9 month wait list per person after we have Medicaid in place. They can't come here. They are awful; cruel to others, she is combative, he is a very large man and wears diapers. I'm overwhelmed. If they get kicked out we just refuse to come get them they have to keep them right?

This sounds like a terrible situation. I gather they're in a nursing home now, but they can't stay there? Does the social worker at their current facility have any plan for them or any suggestions?

I'd ask for help from Social Services and/or the director of the facility they are in. Who's paying for their care now?

Medicare for him- he fell. He refused to leave the hospital and go to skilled nursing facility without her. they wouldn't let her go home alone because she has dementia. We jumped on the opportunity and refused to go get her. They placed her - idk how the place is getting paid but we are working with them to get info to medical. The place theyre at now said they have a waiting list for long term care and they can't jump to the front of the list; but did tell us legally they can not release them . They are very nice people that are working there. It's just 3 hours away.

Social worker has 64 patients. She's helpful but is busy.

I guess I just answered my own question- they can not legally kick them out. I just want this resolved and them in a permanent place. Kinda needed to vent I guess.

Sorrynotsorry, both of them sound like they are in "protective custody" or a "ward of the state" so things are pretty much out of your hands. They will be assigned to a county social worker and a legal guardian appointed by the county surrogate's court. You can stop worrying.

I'd be grateful they are somewhere safe and being cared for. The County will sort out their Medicare and or Medicaid. Unless, you wish to pay out of pocket for their care or take them into your home, which I would absolutely not do, I'd let the professionals manage their affairs. It sounds like their level of care is such that it would not be feasible to have them in private home.

Safe, cared for and *together*? Fantastic! That's what I call a result. Turn your phone off and crack open the Champagne, I should.
