My dad insist on wearing this swede vest that is disgusting looking. Stained and dirty looking, I'm afraid people are going to think he is not well cared for ? Today he put on a pair of clean pants but again they have stains and look bad. My girlfriend said I need to say something, and I have but he won't spend the money to clean the vest and when I said something about the pants he said " Who cares ?" He only gets out for a hour a day at a local donut shop and sometimes meets friends. But I gotta say he looks terrible and I can't get him to see it. People use to say he was always well dressed, but I doubt anyone thinks that anymore. What other approaches can I take besides stealing the stuff away and trashing it ? My dad has dementia and bad heart and stressing him out is one thing I try to avoid.

Who does your dad's laundry? Are his clothes just not getting washed?

Are you POA? If you are, take some of his money and buy him some new clothes.

When I cared for my dad it was always a priority for me that he look tidy and clean. If I couldn't get stains out of his clothes I would buy him some new clothes at Walmart. At Christmas and Father's Day and birthdays he'd get new clothes from nicer stores.

Yes I'm the POA. He will not spend much money, especially buying close. He has many cloths, but most no longer fit. He has everything dry cleaned, but he will wear the same cloths for days. That vest he wears everyday.

My Dad insists I do too much laundry. He would wear his clothes for days at a time, saying like yours " who cares". We compromise he wears his clothes for two days, but if he is going out he looks perfect, good clothes without a spot. I told him it is for me. That people judge me by his appearance. I have four catty aunts, I blame them.
